If you need to show that you’re up to date on your federal tax obligations, the IRS now offers a digitally authenticated Tax Compliance Report through your IRS Individual Online Account.
You may need this report when applying for a job, a loan, a government benefit, or another service that requires proof of your tax compliance. The new report includes an IRS-issued digital certificate that allows organizations to verify the report is authentic, helping protect your information and reducing the risk of altered documents.
The report provides a summary of your federal tax compliance without revealing sensitive tax return information, such as your income, filing status, or dependents. Instead, it shows information such as:
You can download your Tax Compliance Report anytime through your IRS Individual Online Account.
If an organization asks for your Tax Compliance Report, send the original downloaded PDF. The embedded digital certificate allows the recipient to verify that the report is authentic. Screenshots, scanned copies, or files created using “Print to PDF” do not include the digital authentication.
If you recently filed a tax return or made a payment, your report may not reflect those updates immediately. The IRS says payments generally appear within about two weeks, while tax returns may take four to six weeks to post to your account.
If you believe your Tax Compliance Report is inaccurate, review your IRS online account to identify the issue. Once all payments and tax returns have been posted, if the information still appears incorrect, contact the IRS at 800-829-1040 for assistance.
If you can’t resolve the issue with the IRS, or the problem is causing financial hardship, you may qualify for assistance from TAS.
