TAS Seminars
Seminars at the Nationwide Tax Forums allow attendees to learn information related to key federal and state tax issues. TAS seminars will focus on the ITIN application process, helping small businesses navigate the IRS collection maze and return preparer fraud. Please note that there is no advanced preparation or prerequisite requirement for attending these seminars.

ITINs and Filing a Tax Return: Advocating for your client during the ITIN application process
Anyone who must file a tax return and isn’t eligible for a Social Security number must apply for an ITIN. ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because residents and nonresidents alike may have filing requirements. Generally, the IRS requires individuals to attach a paper tax return to their ITIN applications. This session will cover these and other ITIN issues.

Small Business Collection Cases: How  the Taxpayer Advocate Service can help
  • Navigating the IRS collection maze – should you contact the Automated Collection System, a Revenue Officer, or someone else?
  • Advocating for the taxpayer – has the IRS provided adequate notice and given the taxpayer its right to be heard, or has the IRS unfairly labeled your client as non-compliant?
  • Resolving the taxpayer’s problem – is the best way an offer in compromise, installment agreement, or some other solution?
Return Preparer Fraud: Remedies for the taxpayer
Has your client been victimized by another preparer who has engaged in misconduct or fraud?  Unfortunately, a growing number of taxpayers are victims of these schemes.  This presentation will discuss the common types of preparer fraud, and describe how you can help clients resolve the resulting problems with the IRS.
